Senior Assistant Accountant
Location: Armagh, Northern Ireland
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum, depending on experience
Contract: Full Time | 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 5.00pm
Start Date: August 2026
EMCS is supporting a well established business in Armagh with the appointment of a Senior Assistant Accountant to join their finance team on a 12 month fixed term contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional seeking a varied accounting role with exposure to management reporting, month end accounting, VAT compliance, payroll support and financial analysis.
The successful candidate will benefit from a structured handover period and will work closely with the Finance Director as part of a supportive and collaborative finance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Complete balance sheet and control account reconciliations
- Prepare journals, accruals and prepayments
- Support month end and year end reporting activities
- Assist with VAT returns and compliance reporting
- Support payroll reporting and payroll reconciliations
- Maintain accurate accounting records and reporting schedules
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
- Prepare cash flow reports and management information
- Support the Finance Director with financial reporting and analysis
Candidate Profile
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Senior Accounts Assistant, Finance Officer or similar finance position
- Experience supporting management accounts preparation
- Strong reconciliation and month end accounting experience
- Good Excel skills and strong attention to detail
- Well organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication and problem solving skills
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
- AAT, ACCA, ACA, CIMA or CPA qualification or part qualification
- Experience with VAT returns
- Payroll experience
- Experience using Sage or similar accounting software
