Full job description

Shawpak are a leading UK manufacturer specialising in the design and manufacture of high-quality machinery solutions with a commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability. Shawpak have developed a unique range of packaging equipment for medical devices including rotary thermoforming machinery, rigid blister making equipment and pouch machinery. From start to finish we offer a complete solution dedicated to the medical industry.

We are looking for an experienced CNC Programmer and Operator to join our team. As a CNC Programmer and Operator you will be responsible for creating CNC programs, and setting up and operating CNC machines to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently, safety, maintain high quality standards and meet production deadlines and overall business objectives.

COMPETENCIES

•Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, GD&T and CAD models.

•Skilled in using machine controls Heidenhain and Siemens, and CAM software Powermill and Fusion.

•Knowledge and understanding of how different materials (Aluminium, stainless steels, plastics, etc) behave under machining.

•Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues.

•A basic level of numeracy and literature at GCSE level or equivalent.

•A time served Apprenticeship in Engineering or HNC / HND or equivalent.

•Excellent organisational, time keeping and communications skills.

•Have a strong eye for detail with the ability to identify faults and provide solutions.

•Have a positive attitude with adaptability to support the business requirements.

•Able to work as part of a team and off own initiative, demonstrating a confident and competent and confident approach to decision making.

•The ability to follow instructions and prioritise workload productively to meet deadlines.

MAIN TASKS

1. Interpret technical drawings and CAD models.

2. Develop and optimise CNC programs.

3. Determine appropriate tools, speeds, feeds, and cutting paths.

4. Simulate programs to identify and resolve potential issues before production.

5. Set up and calibrate CNC machines, including tool selection and part alignment.

6. Load raw materials and monitor machine operation throughout the production cycle.

7. Perform first-part inspections and make necessary adjustments.

8. Conduct in-process quality checks using micrometers, callipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.

9. Perform basic machine maintenance and be proactive in resolving any machinery issues, escalating to the relevant department as required to minimise unplanned downtime.

10. Report any machine malfunctions or quality issues to supervisors promptly.

11. Comply to all health and safety standards and ensure a clean and organised work area including machinery and surrounding areas.
