We are part of the Express Engineering Group who employ more than 300 employees across the two companies, Express Engineering (Gateshead) and Express Engineering (Fabrications) (trading as QA Weld Tech).
We are looking for an experienced Buyer / Expeditor to join our team who will support the effective management of subcontract engineering services and ensure supply chain activities align with production and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities as Buyer Expeditor include:
- Raise and manage purchase orders for subcontract engineering services.
- Coordinate subcontract processes including:
- Coating and painting, Grinding and surface finishing, CNC and manual machining, Heat treatment, Non-destructive testing (NDT) and Specialist external processing services.
- Expedite orders to ensure supplier deliveries meet production schedules.
- Liaise regularly with suppliers regarding lead times, delivery performance, and technical requirements.
- Work closely with production, planning, quality, and engineering teams.
- Monitor supplier performance relating to quality, delivery, and cost.
- Resolve supply chain issues proactively to minimise disruption.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and ERP/MRP system updates.
- Obtain quotations and support cost-saving initiatives where appropriate.
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with company procedures and quality standards.
To be successful in the role of Buyer Expeditor with Express Engineering, you will have:
- Previous experience in a buying, procurement, or supply chain role within engineering or manufacturing.
- Experience managing subcontract services is highly desirable.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Experience expediting supplier orders and managing delivery schedules.
- Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Competent using Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within subsea energy, power generation, oil & gas, or heavy engineering sectors.
- Knowledge of machining, fabrication, or precision engineering processes.
- Familiarity with ISO quality systems and engineering documentation.
