Full job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join a dynamic team of Consultants at the Eye Unit of the Royal United Hospital.

We are seeking a consultant with a special interest in glaucoma.

Applicants should be highly experienced cataract surgeons capable of high throughput surgery and able to perform other general ophthalmic surgical procedures commensurate with their experience and special interest. The post holder will be expected to do their share of general ophthalmology along with the current consultants as well as doing clinics and operating lists in their area of interest.

The post will be based at the RUH and at community clinics, providing care both face-to-face and virtually. There is a strong commitment to expanding virtual clinic capacity in the department. Peripheral clinics are currently provided in the following towns; Chippenham, Trowbridge and Frome.

The holder will participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Lead Clinician of Ophthalmology.

A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected, and completion of diaries for CME is essential. It is also essential that you have an annual appraisal.

An interest in research and teaching is expected with participation in projects, courses, etc. to enhance the standing and role of the Department and Trust.
Attendance at, and organisation of, meetings is expected.
