Community‑Run Country Pub – Wye Valley

Location: The Rising Sun, Woodcroft (NP16)
Job Type: Permanent preferred but Seasonal considered, Full‑time or 2 part time candidates
Hours: 40-45 hours | 2 full days off
Salary: £15 –£17 per hour depending on experience

About Us

The Rising Sun, Woodcroft is a community‑owned, independent country pub set in the heart of the beautiful Wye Valley. We’re proud of our 5‑star reputation, national CAMRA award, and our focus on proper pub food cooked from scratch using local produce wherever possible.

We’re a small, friendly, supportive team who genuinely value work‑life balance, consistency, and quality.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced, hands‑on Chef to join us for a permanent role to work closely with our Head Chef and General Manager in a well‑run, positive kitchen environment. The successful candidate will be in charge of running the kitchen for 2 days a week on the head chef's days off.

You will:

Cook fresh, high‑quality homemade pub food from scratch
Support menu development and create seasonal specials
Run service confidently on the Head Chef’s days off
Maintain excellent hygiene standards and our 5‑star food rating
Help mentor junior chef and KP’s and maintain consistency
Thrive in a busy service while remaining calm and professional

About You

Experienced Sous Chef (pub or gastro‑pub background preferred)
Passionate about good food done properly
Reliable, flexible and a strong team player
Comfortable working under pressure during peak services
Food Hygiene Level 2 essential (Level 3 advantageous)
First Aid / Fire Training desirable but not essential
Recent references required

Pay & Benefits

£15 – £17 per hour (dependent on experience)
Tronc / tips via EasyTip – approx. £3,000+ per year
