An opportunity has arisen for a Dairy Assistant to join the team at Ridgeway Research Ltd to support the delivery of dairy-based research studies by assisting with animal husbandry, milking procedures, sample collection, data recording, and general study activities. The role is essential in ensuring high standards of animal welfare, study integrity, and compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.

Ridgeway Research Ltd is a UK Contract Research Organisation within the Animal Health Industry delivering research and development of veterinary products. We specialise in agricultural research and work with a variety of species including cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry.
About the Role
This role is specifically to support a dairy research study and will involve assisting with milking preparation, sample collection activities, and the day-to-day care and monitoring of study animals.
Duties will include:
- Preparing animals for milking procedures, including teat cleaning and hygiene preparation
- Assisting with milk sample collection in accordance with study protocols
- Ensuring high standards of hygiene and biosecurity are maintained
- Cleaning and preparation of study and animal areas
- Accurate record keeping and completion of required documentation
- Assisting with animal handling where required
- Working to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and study protocols
- Supporting Animal Care and Research staff with study-related activities
The role may involve working independently or as part of a small team.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with cattle or other agricultural livestock
- Is confident handling animals in a practical environment
- Has good attention to detail and can follow written procedures
- Is reliable, organised, and able to work independently
- Is comfortable working split shifts
- Can maintain accurate records and documentation
- Is physically fit and comfortable with manual handling
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with agricultural animals (cattle preferred)
- Ability to work split shifts, including weekends if required
- UK driving licence and own transport
- Computer literate
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
Desirable
- Animal-based qualification
- Experience working with dairy cattle
- Experience working within a regulated or research environment
- Experience working to SOPs and study protocols
Pay: £14.00 per hour
