Senior Technician Stage and Flys (6 months mat cover)
As Senior Stage and Fly’s Technician you will play a key role in ensuring our standards of presentation, both on stage and throughout the building.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for all stage and fly’s services of stage performances, concerts and related activities within agreed schedules and budgets. They will assist the Technical and Buildings Manager to manage and develop the technical services for all stage performances, concerts, and related activities as well as the upkeep of theatre systems, equipment and maintenance of the backstage, plant and Front of House areas within agreed schedules and budgets. You will also deputise for the Technical/Deputy Technical Manager in their absence including attending Head of Department meetings, calculating contras, producing rotas, and producing full time and casual timesheets.
You will use your expertise to advise or construing, rigging & fly plots, and scheduling, when required, for a broad range of clients with varying degrees of experience, from professional to amateur. Using excellent inter-personal skills, alongside the Technical and Building Manager, you will ensure that all involved follow correct procedures and ensure we operate safely under ATG policy, UK Theatre/BECTU Code of Conduct, CDM and other relevant Health & Safety legislation.
Key responsibilities
- To support the Technical and Building Manager in ensuring the maintenance of all stage, fly floors, tool stores and flying equipment is carried out to industry standards and maintained ready for use.
- To lead a team of technicians where appropriate for the running of shows, get-ins, and get-outs. Act as Duty Technician when required for performances ensuring that venue operations are in place for the show.
- To carry out pre and post show checks on the fly floor.
- To ensure that materials and services required by the technical department are costed and ordered in accordance with company policies, subsequently ensuring all expenditure is kept within agreed budgets.
- To maintain and implement technical procedures and working practices and ensure that all permanent and casual staff are up to date with these.
- To work with all private hires, filming and creative learning activities including work experience when required to maintain full technical support as a production would receive
- To work with colleagues in Customer Experience and Ticketing & Sales in terms of wider operational impacts that may come about as a result of production and technical decisions (running times, rider request etc)
- Carry out the duties of show crew by providing safe and efficient operation of performances. With the ability to confidently work all disciplines as required including but not limited to; Stage, Fly’s, Sound, LX Op, Pyros and Follow Spot. Undertake any other tasks as directed by the Technical and Buildings Manager
Health & Safety
- Ensure the safe and efficient get-in, fit-up and get-out of all productions in line with the UKT/BECTU Code of Conduct.
- Assist the Line Managers in coordinating and producing health and safety documentation and Risk Assessments for in-house events and private hires, also ensuring the venue’s compliance with the CDM Regulations. Ensure that any accidents or near misses are reported and dealt with in accordance with company polices.To write and review venue risk assessments and implement new ones when necessary.
- To ensure contractor management is maintained and efficient.
Finance and Budget
- To assist the Technical and Building Manager in working with suppliers to get the best hire deals possible for the venue and its clients, and to keep a good working relationship with these suppliers.
- Property, Building, Maintenance and Capital Development.
- As part of the technical team, ensure that the building is presented to the highest standards, and that the building is safe for use by, staff and customers at all times, working in collaboration with the Front of House Team as required.

- Experience in stage and flying, working knowledge of current Health & Safety Regulations.

- Working knowledge of Counterweight Flying Systems.
