Job Summary
To create, maintain, and manage clear, accurate, and user-friendly technical documentation for a range of products and systems. This includes writing installation and maintenance instructions, user manuals, and service publications, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting global markets through content localisation. The role requires close collaboration with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure that documentation accurately reflects the product design, configuration, and operation.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Writing
- Write clear and concise manuals, installation guides, and maintenance instructions.
- Perform technical editing and proofreading of all documentation.
- Create and update user documentation in line with product changes and project requirements.
- Interpret information from the Engineering Change Management system for the effective updating of part books.
Documentation Tools and Content Creation
- Use authoring tools such as Adobe InDesign and document management systems.
- Produce technical graphics and illustrations using tools like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Develop and implement style guides and ensure consistent indexing and cross-referencing across publications.
Technical Knowledge & Standards
- Apply an understanding of machine components and systems in technical content creation. Ensure documentation meets relevant compliance standards (ISO, CE, etc.) and adheres to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) guidelines.
Software and Tools
- Use MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for document preparation and reporting.
- Apply PDF editing and conversion tools to manage outputs and distribution.
Project Management & Collaboration
- Manage documentation projects and timelines to meet delivery requirements.
- Work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure technical accuracy and relevance.
Quality Assurance
- Review and verify the technical accuracy of all published content. Maintain version control and document revision tracking.
Communication & Localization
- Liaise with engineers and subject matter experts to gather technical information. Manage translations and localization of documentation for global markets.
Problem Solving
- Troubleshoot and address documentation gaps or inconsistencies. Adapt documentation to meet evolving product requirements and specifications.
Independence
- Responsibility: Owns the creation, management, and delivery of technical publications to schedule and quality targets.
- Decisions: Determines the most effective documentation approach, style, and structure while ensuring compliance and technical accuracy.
Negotiating field
- Engineering Team – Obtain technical details and review content
- Production & Quality – Responsible for ensuring that released manuals are kept up to date, with all amendments applied and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Suppliers / Translators – Manage content accuracy for external inputs and translations
Job Requirements
Essential:
- Proven experience as a technical author or in a similar documentation role.
- Strong technical writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency with authoring tools (Adobe FrameMaker) and graphics software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Knowledge of document management systems and style guide implementation.
- Understanding engineering principles and machine components.
- Familiarity with industry standards (ISO, CE) and HSE requirements.
- Strong project management, organization, and communication skills.
- Strong proficiency in Word processing software such as Microsoft Word or similar tools.
Desirable :
- Experience with localization and translation management.
- Previous experience using IsoDraw to create illustrations for parts manuals would be advantageous.
- Experience using 3D CAD software, particularly Siemens NX, to export CAD data for the creation of illustrations for parts manuals and other technical documents would be beneficial.
