Senior Technician / Assistant (No. 3) Stage Engineering

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Technician Stage Engineering at His Majesty’s Theatre. In this exciting and varied role, you will: help in the delivery of rehearsals and performances of our resident production, aid the delivery of concerts and events, carry out maintenance and installation of the technical and building infrastructure.
Through working with a diverse team, you will provide the highest standard of customer experience to our resident production and break new ground in our industry.
Working closely with the Head & Deputy Head of Stage Engineering you will:
- Ensure the team deliver the highest technical standards of customer service to the resident production for all performances, previews and technical rehearsals.
Working closely with the visiting Company to ensure the resident production Load in and Load Out happens smoothly and safely. -
In the absence of the Head & Deputy Head of Stage Engineering, managing a team to ensure safe and smooth operation of the resident production, ensuring the highest possible production standards are maintained whilst protecting the interest of LW Theatres

Ensure that production maintenance and statutory inspections are carried out in line with current legislation.
- Delivering concerts and events to the highest standard ensuring minimal disturbance to the resident production and ensuring trucking is ran to avoid disturbance to our neighbours.
- Helping the team to maintain a professional work environment, where performers, technicians and audience members are safe.
Problem solving technical issues relating to the production and building services.
- Assisting the Head & Deputy Head of Stage Engineering, ensuring the continued safe and effective operation of the theatre including achieving satisfactory compliance throughout the building.
- Carry out first line maintenance and/or review as appropriate the technical infrastructure not limited to the: Counterweight Flying System, Stage Flooring, Stage Grid System, Rigging Systems, Safety Curtain, Stage Lantern.
- Champion and drive a positive approach to Health & Safety at the Theatre, proactively supporting the practical application of LW Theatres Health and Safety Policy, as well as our licensing requirements.

Create a high-performance culture in the team; helping to set clear objectives for senior production technicians and production technicians.

Keep backstage and technical areas tidy and well maintained. Ensure that an excellent standard of general housekeeping is always sustained as well as assisting with general maintenance issues.

Ensuring essential supplies are ordered for the building and maintaining appropriate stock levels.

Assist the Head & Deputy Head of Stage Engineering to deliver a maintenance and inspection regime for all technical and building infrastructure including arranging inspections, analysing maintenance and inspection reports and taking appropriate action in each case, including record keeping.

Keep up to date with current and emerging technical developments and legislation and make any recommendations for improving the technical equipment or standards of the Theatre.

Assisting the Head & Deputy Head of Stage Engineering to ensure venue compliance with the Technical Standards for Places of Entertainment, as well as Local Authority Rules of Management and other relevant legislation, regulation, guidance, ACOP etc.

Ensure there is excellent communication and collaboration between the Stage Engineering department and all other departments in the Theatre.
What we need…
Practical knowledge of technical systems, including but not limited to Counterweight Flying System, Stage Flooring, Stage Grid System, Rigging Systems, Safety Curtain, Stage Lantern and building systems. Which include but not limited to: Fire Doors, Auditorium seating and Sprinkler systems.
- Experience fitting up and getting out of concert, TV or touring productions.
Commercial awareness; able to assist with budget management. -
Good working knowledge of the Health & Safety and Licensing requirements associated with theatrical management.

Awareness of Construction and Design Management 2015 and Technical Standards for Places of Entertainment.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Experience of leading, motivating and instructing technical team members during technical events.

Can adapt to changing circumstances and overcome challenges.

Experience of successfully delivering projects and working under pressure as a key member of the team.

Willingness to challenge existing working methods and to introduce new working practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Stage
Essential
Ability to lead a team during a fit up or get out and during day-to-day operation in the absence of the Head & Deputy Head of Stage Engineering.
Experience of West End or No.1 Touring Productions.
Competent with use of flying systems and flying large scale productions.
Practical knowledge of rigging systems and practices.
Advantageous
Previous experience directing a large team in technical matters.
Previous experience running a fly floor and/or creating flying plots.
A high level of Theatre Carpentry skills.
Rigging Qualification

Salary & Hours:
Hourly Salary: £18.01 BECTU Grade 3 rate
Hours of Work: 40 Hours over 5 days
