Essential Criteria
- A qualification at QCF Level 5 Diploma in Childcare, Learning and Development or Playwork (applicants working towards achieving this qualification may be considered)
- Or a relevant occupational qualification in Early Years’ Education, social work, nursing, teaching or health visiting.
- 2 year’s experience working in a play, education, youth or daycare setting
- A thorough understanding of child protection and safeguarding
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- An understanding of the physical, intellectual, linguistic, social and emotional growth as part of child development.
Desirable criteria:
- BA Hons Early Childhood Studies
- Experience of leadership / management within an Early Years setting
- Experience of ETI Inspection and annual Social Services Inspection
- Food Hygiene Level 2
- Paediatric First Aid
- Designated Child Protection officer
- Competence in IT
Job Description
Portglenone Community Playgroup is a community based, charitable preschool setting which aims to provide high quality Early Years education to children in their Preschool year within the local community.
We are looking for a Playgroup Deputy Leader who is passionate, knowledgeable within the Early Years field and has a true passion and love for children to join our team.
The Deputy Playgroup Leader will support the Playgroup Leader in the effective and smooth operational running of the setting, ensuring that children remain at the heart of all decision-making.
The post holder will promote a safe, nurturing, inclusive and high-quality environment and support the embedding a neuro-affirming, inclusive approach across the setting.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Operational Support
- Support the Playgroup Leader in the day-to-day organisation and smooth running of the setting
- Assist in leading and developing staff, including work allocation, supervision and team collaboration
- Act as Playgroup Leader in their absence
2. Quality of Practice & Child Outcomes
- Support the delivery of a high-quality early years curriculum in line with Department of Education guidance
- Ensure all practice is child-centred, promoting children's wellbeing, development and learning
- Lead and contribute to planning, observation and assessment, ensuring children reach their full potential
3. Inclusion & Neuro-affirming Practice
- Promote and embed a neuro-affirming and inclusive approach, recognising the individuality of all children
- Support children with additional needs to fully access and participate in the setting
- Champion an ethos where all children and families feel valued, respected and included
4. Safeguarding & Welfare
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children in line with safeguarding procedures
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, health and safety, and risk assessment
- Uphold confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times
5. Partnership Working
- Develop positive relationships with children, families, staff and external professionals
- Support effective communication with parents to encourage engagement in children’s learning
- Build links with local schools and services to support transition and community connections
6. Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain petty cash records in line with agreed financial procedures
- Work alongside the Management Committee Treasurer to ensure invoices are processed and paid in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate records as required by regulatory bodies
