Workshop Controller
Ballymena, Northern Ireland | Full Time | Competitive Salary
About MB Motors
MB Motors NI is one of Northern Ireland's leading independent used car dealerships, based in Ballymena. As a Bosch-Approved Service Centre, we hold ourselves to the highest standards across vehicle preparation, servicing, and aftersales. Our workshop is a busy, professional environment and a key part of the business.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Workshop Controller to take ownership of our workshop operations — someone who can plan and manage workflow effectively, keep the team running smoothly, and still isn't afraid to pick up the tools when needed. This is a pivotal role in the business, bridging the gap between the front of house and the workshop floor.
The right person will be a natural leader with strong organisational skills, a hands-on background, and a genuine passion for the trade. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and take pride in running a tight, productive workshop, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage daily workshop loading, allocating jobs to technicians based on skill and capacity
- Monitor job progress and ensure vehicles are completed on time and to standard
- Carry out technical work yourself where required — this is a hands-on role as well as a management one
- Liaise with the sales team on vehicle preparation timescales and priorities
- Maintain quality control across all work leaving the workshop
- Order parts and manage parts stock efficiently
- Ensure health & safety compliance and workshop standards are upheld at all times
- Support and mentor technicians, helping to develop team performance
- Keep accurate records including job cards, technician hours, and vehicle status
What We're Looking For
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- Proven experience in a workshop controller, foreman, or senior technician role
- Strong technical background with the ability and willingness to work hands-on
- Excellent organisational and planning skills — able to manage multiple priorities
- Good communication skills and a natural ability to lead a team
- Experience with workshop loading and job management systems
- Full UK driving licence
- Composed under pressure, with a focus on quality and efficiency
What We Offer
- Competitive salary — dependent on experience
- A key leadership role with real responsibility and autonomy
- Modern, well-equipped workshop as a Bosch-Approved Service Centre
- Stable, growing business with a strong reputation in Northern Ireland
- Supportive management team that values your input
Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company car
- Company events
- Employee discount
Work Location: In person
