Overall purpose of the job:
AEL provides 8 training and development programmes for trainees, aged 15+ with, and without additional needs, supporting them to reach their full potential.
Trainees attending our programmes receive various services including, participating in live work experience across our social enterprises, completing various industry relevant courses and qualifications, one to one mentoring support and help to develop life and social skills. These are designed to help them progress to paid employment, volunteering and/or further education
The Independent Futures project is aimed at those aged 18+ with neurodiverse conditions, such as Autism, Aspergers and/or learning disability or other health related conditions
The Skills Coach will provide in work support and assist trainees to develop vocational skills, whilst also liaising with other programme staff to ensure the effective delivery of the programmes we provide.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated self-starter to become a member of the AEL team and is funded by National Lottery Community Fund.
Responsibilities and Duties
Coaching and Trainee Support
To provide direct, in work support and to share in completion of work with trainees in accordance with delivery expectations.
To be particularly aware of trainee’s individual needs and abilities, whilst also motivating them to achieve their potential.
To provide training, coaching and skills development to trainees.
Assist in planning for the day-to-day work, so that trainees can sample different job roles and develop new skills.
Deal with any day-to-day operational problems.
Demonstrate appropriate workplace behaviour to assist trainees to learn the correct workplace etiquette and procedures.
Supervise trainees and volunteers as required.
To ensure work tasks are planned, set, and completed on time.
To ensure minimal product rework or rejection ensure high quality control standards are maintained.
Performance Standards
Work independently without direct supervision
Follow through on set tasks and complete all planned activities.
Maintain a good standard of working practice- setting example to others and maintaining good working relations with Staff, Employees, Trainees, Suppliers and Customers.
Undertake and contribute to own supervision and job chats to ensure that agreed targets for work performance are in place and met.
Be willing to complete personal development and training as is reasonably required to assist with the effective delivery of your job.
Ability to comply with ISO 9001 quality standards.
Documentation & Record Keeping
Completion of daily observation records for trainees supported, to ensure progression and development of the trainee’s skills.
Contribute to distance travelled assessments, evaluations and reviews as a third-party observer and when necessary, provide feedback on trainee’s progress in relation to the goals and action plans of the trainee.
Ensuring that any documentation in completed in an accurate, timely and respectful manner.
Be aware of current safeguarding legislation and adhere to AEL policies and procedures to always maintain safeguarding.
Safety & Maintenance
To ensure that the production area and office spaces are well always maintained conductive to a safe and productive work environment.
To actively comply with and promote all working policies and procedures.
To always uphold confidentiality regarding Access Employment Limited trainees and business.
General
Be a representative of Access Employment Limited Ethos and Values to the outside world and act as a role model.
Ability to cover for colleagues during absences.
Any other relevant duties commensurate with the role and responsibilities of the post as required by Senior Staff or the Trustees
PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria
Minimum of 3 Level Two qualifications including, literacy and numeracy, (e.g. G.C.S.E, NVQ Level 2, BTEC, Level 2)
OR
At least 2 years relevant experience (within the last 5 years) in a similar role.
Ability to work using own initiative, including effective prioritisation of tasks and ability to work to agreed aims and objectives.
Ability to build rapport and adapt to trainees needs, which can require thinking on your feet.
Knowledge and experience of working with individuals with additional needs and the barriers they face.
Awareness of current Safeguarding legislation.
Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
Self-Motivated, Energetic & Confident.
Experience and good knowledge of I.T and database systems including ability to use MS office (Word, Excel) Internet and Email.
Desirable Criteria
Level 3 qualification or above (e.g. A-Level, NVQ Level 3, BTEC Level 3).
Experience of sublimation printing and heat pressing.
Production/Manufacturing Experience
Experience of working within a social firm.
