HPKC is looking for a reliable, hardworking and motivated General Workshop Operative to join our busy manufacturing team.
This is a varied, hands-on role working across several areas of our furniture manufacturing operation. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to learn practical manufacturing skills, develop within the business and progress into a more specialised role over time.
Full training will be provided, and you will gain experience across different departments before having the opportunity to develop skills in areas that best suit your strengths and interests.
Your duties will include:
- Operating workshop machinery and equipment following appropriate training
- Sanding and preparing components for finishing
- Painting and finishing bathroom furniture
- Building and assembling bathroom vanity units
- Assisting with van loading and unloading
- Moving materials, components and finished products around the workshop
- Carrying out general workshop and housekeeping duties
- Keeping work areas clean, organised and safe
- Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets our quality standards
- Working across different departments depending on production requirements
- Following all company Health & Safety procedures
- Working as part of the production team to achieve daily and weekly production targets
Training & Career Progression
We want to develop skilled people from within the business.
As you gain experience, you will have the opportunity to develop specialist skills in areas including:
- CNC and workshop machine operation
- Furniture building and assembly
- Sanding, preparation and finishing
- Spray painting and paint shop operations
- Quality control and production processes
Employees who demonstrate reliability, a strong work ethic, initiative, quality workmanship and a willingness to learn will have the opportunity to take on additional responsibility and progress into more skilled positions as opportunities arise.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Is reliable, punctual and has a strong work ethic
- Enjoys practical, hands-on work
- Is physically fit and comfortable with regular manual handling and heavy lifting
- Can use their own initiative and work effectively without constant supervision
- Works well as part of a team
- Has good attention to detail
- Is willing and eager to learn new skills
- Takes pride in producing work to a high standard
- Has a positive and flexible approach to work
- Is interested in developing a longer-term career within manufacturing
- Has previous workshop, manufacturing or machinery experience — desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided
What We Offer
- Starting pay: £14.50 per hour
- Pay review following successful completion of the 6-month probationary period
- Full-time, permanent position
- Four-day working week – Monday to Thursday
- Working hours: 7:00am–5:30pm
- Overtime opportunities when available
- Workplace pension
- Paid annual leave
- On-the-job training and development
- Cross-training across different areas of the workshop
- Opportunity to develop specialised manufacturing and machinery skills
- Clear opportunities to progress into more skilled and responsible roles
The Role
This position would particularly suit someone who enjoys practical work and wants the opportunity to build skills and progress rather than simply carry out the same task every day.
You will gain experience across machine operation, sanding, painting, furniture assembly and general production, giving you a strong understanding of the complete furniture manufacturing process.
Due to the nature of our products and materials, manual handling and heavy lifting are a regular part of the role. Applicants must therefore be comfortable with the physical demands of a busy manufacturing environment.
Pay: From £14.50 per hour
Benefits:
- Company pension
- Employee discount
- Free parking
- On-site parking
Work Location: In person
