Overview
We are seeking an Engineering Assistant to provide support to the Chief Engineer to ensure that the railway's rolling stock and infrastructure is correctly maintained in accordance with operating regulations and to ensure that there are sufficient serviceable locomotives and rolling stock to meet operational demands. The successful candidate will, when required and after full training, drive passenger trains as instructed in accordance with the railway’s operating timetable
Key Skills & Responsibilities
- To possess a sound knowledge of workshop engineering principles and practices and the requirement for tidiness and tool control.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to apply it in practical scenarios.
- The ability to operate heavy workshop equipment, tools and machines accurately and safely.
- To possess a sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and the ability to carry out risk assessments.
- Following full training, to drive steam and diesel locomotives for carrying members of the public and for shunting and general movement of rolling stock.
- The ability to understand and obey the rules and regulations of railway operations.
- Skills in root cause analysis to effectively identify problems and implement solutions.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Effective communication skills and IT proficiency.
