The hospitality industry is uniquely human, and it deserves technology that's just as inspiring as the people behind it. At Mews, we're transforming the industry with a platform that helps hotels run smarter, move faster and create better guest experiences.
You'll work with smart, curious people who care deeply about what they do. You'll have autonomy and the trust to make good decisions and move quickly. And you'll enjoy a real sense of purpose as you see the impact of what we're building.
If you're motivated by ownership, curiosity and meaningful impact, and are driven to deliver consistent high performance, you'll feel at home here.
Let's get into the specifics. It's impossible to capture every nuance of a role – especially at a rapidly growing company like Mews – but if we had to distil it into a job description (which we do because this is a job description), it would be this:
Director of Engineering – Guest Experience
We're looking for a Director of Engineering to join our team and lead a critical part of our engineering organisation at a pivotal moment for Mews.
This is a senior leadership role for someone who can combine technical depth, organisational leadership, and strong product instincts. You'll help shape the next chapter of our Front of House department, as we work toward a future where Mews recognises guests at scale, delivers personalised experiences across the journey, empowers staff with automation and next-best actions, and becomes the CRM of hospitality.
What You'll Do
- Lead and grow engineering teams through managers and senior individual contributors, creating clarity, accountability, and a high-performance culture.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and other engineering leaders to turn strategy into execution across a complex, cross-product area.
- Set engineering direction that balances speed, quality, and long-term scalability.
- Raise the bar on engineering excellence, operational health, and delivery rigour in an environment where Front of House has made quality, proactive monitoring, and stronger governance a clear priority.
- Help teams ship the capabilities that matter most to our strategy, including areas such as guest recognition, personalised experiences, automation, role-aware workflows, and connected guest journeys.
- Drive strong cross-tribe and cross-division collaboration, especially where ecosystem value depends on shared capabilities across Front of House, Back of House, Platform, and Fintech.
- Coach leaders to make sound decisions, reduce unnecessary complexity, and build teams that can move fast without collapsing under scale or operational pressure.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means building an engineering organisation that can deliver against the core outcomes Front of House is aiming for:
- Increasing the share of the guest journey powered by Mews
- Improving Guest Lifetime Value
- Reducing Time to Serve for staff and guests
It also means helping teams translate strategy into measurable outcomes, with clearer metrics, better prioritisation, and stronger links between engineering delivery and business impact.
What We're Looking For
- Significant experience leading engineering organisations in a modern B2B SaaS, platform, or product company.
- A track record of leading through scale, ambiguity, and change.
- Strong technical judgment with the ability to guide architecture, quality, and execution without needing to be the person writing all the code.
- Experience building healthy organisations through other leaders, including coaching engineering managers and senior engineers.
- The ability to partner deeply with Product and Design and to lead in a model where business context, user value, and engineering execution are tightly connected.
- A bias for clarity, pragmatism, and high standards.
- Confidence making hard trade-offs: knowing when to simplify, when to invest, and how to keep teams focused on the most important outcomes.
Why This Role Matters
The long-term strategy is clear: recognise guests earlier, personalise experiences more effectively, automate the right workflows, and give staff the tools to act with confidence in real time.
This role is an opportunity to lead at that intersection of technology, customer experience, and commercial impact, and to shape the engineering organisation that brings that vision to life.
If you're an engineering leader who thrives in complex product environments, knows how to scale both systems and people, and wants to help redefine what great hospitality software looks like, we'd love to talk.

We're an equal opportunities employer. We value teams that reflect the diversity of the customers and communities we serve. Different perspectives make better ideas, stronger products and a more welcoming company.
We also believe transparency is important when deciding if you're the right fit. Mews is an ambitious, high-pressure environment of continuous learning and high standards. Success here requires resilience, adaptability and a willingness to solve difficult problems.
A few things that define how we work:
- High autonomy means high responsibility. People are expected to take ownership and drive outcomes. There isn't a detailed playbook for everything, and that's part of what makes the work challenging – and rewarding.
- Change is constant. We're growing quickly and adapting as we scale. Teams, processes and priorities continue to evolve, and only people who stay curious and agile will thrive.
- We're remote-first, not relationship-free. Flexibility is core to how we work, but strong relationships still matter. Our teams are global, so we need expert collaborators and communicators to help us move forward together.
- AI is an integral part of our processes. It's not here to steal people's jobs, but to amplify efficiency and productivity. We're motivated to proactively use the technology to seek out better ways of working and share our findings with the rest of the company.
If there's anything we can do to support you during the application process, let us know.
We don't discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability or any other protected characteristic.
One final thing: don't hold back. If you don't meet 100% of the criteria in this job description but you're certain you could make a big impact, apply. Everyone should have equal access to opportunities, and we're committed to providing an inclusive experience.
If Mews sounds like the kind of environment where you'd thrive, we'd love to hear from you.
