Full job description

One YMCA provides specialist housing and support services for people experiencing homelessness and other complex challenges. We are looking for dedicated Supported Housing Officers (Nights) to join our Housing & Communities team and help ensure the safety, security, and wellbeing of residents throughout the night.

We currently have opportunities available across the following services:
1 x Peartree Campus
1 x Hatfield Hostel

This is a waking night role, meaning you will be actively working throughout your shift, supporting residents, responding to incidents, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.

About the Role: Based within a hostel setting, you will act as the first point of contact during the night, providing a professional and supportive presence for residents who may be experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance misuse issues, or other complex needs. You will monitor the building, manage incidents appropriately, carry out welfare and security checks, and ensure the service operates safely and effectively overnight.

What You'll Do

Maintain the safety and security of residents, visitors, and the building.
Conduct regular welfare and security checks.
Respond to incidents, emergencies, and safeguarding concerns.
Operate CCTV and security systems in line with procedures.
Maintain accurate records and detailed handovers.
Provide a professional, welcoming, and supportive service to residents.
Work closely with colleagues to ensure continuity of support and effective service delivery.

You will have:

Experience working with vulnerable people or similar client groups.
Knowledge of building security, Health & Safety, and safeguarding practices.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience using CCTV, databases, and reporting systems.
The ability to remain calm, professional, and responsive in challenging situations.

This is a Full Time role.
Hours per week: 46.6667
Working Pattern: 4 days on, 2 days off, including weekends and bank holidays

Move on accommodation for individuals moving onto independent living
Housing and practical/emotional support for young asylum seekers
Community HUBs hosting a range of activities and meeting space hire
Childcare provision in Hertfordshire
Family support through a network of children’s and family centres covering Hertfordshire and Bedford
Therapeutic and non-therapeutic support for male and female victims of domestic abuse and their children
Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire
Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire
Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 11-19 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund
