Longcliffe Quarries are looking for a Processing Plant Operative to support our quarry operations by ensuring the safe and efficient running of processing plants and yard activities at our Brassington Moor Quarry. Your role will be key to maintaining production output, meeting customer requirements, and upholding the high standards we expect across site operations.
With over 100 products serving industries such as animal feed, agriculture, glass manufacturing, and construction materials, our processing operations are central to delivering consistent quality and reliability. Guided by our principles of supplying the right materials, at the right time, and at the right price—while protecting the environment—you will play an important part in ensuring safe, efficient, and effective production.
Main duties and responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the Processing Team may include any or all the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Processing & Yard Manager or Processing & Yard Supervisor, dependent on current and evolving workloads and staffing levels:
- Ensure the safe operation of processing plants, mobile plant, tankers and yard activities while on shift.
- Monitor plant performance, alarms, and efficiency to maintain production targets.
- Review production schedules, tipper and tanker movements, and ensure customer orders are met.
- Complete required inspections, including vehicle checks, plant checks, and regulatory inspections, ensuring all records are maintained accurately.
- Carry out sampling duties, quality checks, and ensure materials meet required specifications.
- Record production data, downtime, and environmental monitoring information (e.g. noise and dust).
- Maintain effective communication across shifts through written handovers and team meetings.
- Support loading and unloading activities and supervise drivers on site where required.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment, addressing housekeeping issues promptly.
- Assist with breakdowns and maintenance activities where appropriate.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, safety initiatives, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential
- GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).
- Understanding of safe working practices or willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow procedures and work safely in an industrial environment.
Desirable
- IOSH Working Safely or similar health & safety qualification.
- NVQ Level 2 in Processing Operations
- Experience of working in quarrying, manufacturing, or heavy industry environments.
Skills & Competencies
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
- Ability to monitor processes and respond to issues in a timely manner.
- Basic IT skills and ability to complete records and reports accurately.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when carrying out checks and inspections.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to changing workloads.
- Commitment to learning and developing new skills through training.
