Pharmidex is seeking a motivated and reliable Animal Technician to join our Biological Services Unit in Hatfield. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with at least 1 year of experience working with rodents in a laboratory or regulated environment who is passionate about animal welfare and maintaining high standards of husbandry.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day care and welfare of animals while ensuring compliance with Home Office and regulatory requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesAnimal Husbandry
- Carry out daily animal checks and welfare observations
- Perform routine husbandry duties including cleaning, feeding, watering, and weighing animals
- Monitor animal health and report any concerns promptly
- Receive and unpack animal deliveries
Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities and observations
- Monitor and document environmental conditions within the facility
Facility Maintenance
- Operate cage and bottle washing equipment
- Prepare clean cages, bottles, and equipment for use
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the facility
- Handle waste disposal in accordance with company procedures
Additional Duties
- Receive and store consumables and supplies
- Assist with basic equipment maintenance and general facility support
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with rodents in a laboratory or similar environment
- Good understanding of animal welfare and regulatory compliance
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Animal care qualification desirable but not essential
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday
- Occasional overtime may be required
- Weekend work on a rota basis may be required
