Teaching Assistant (Grade 3) – Foundation Stage / Key Stage 1

Oxspring Primary School

Grade 3 £17,031 (actual salary - pay award pending)
28.75 hours per week, 5 days. Term time plus 2 inset days.
Start date September 2026 – Permanent contract

Oxspring Primary School is seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant (Grade 3) to join our supportive and dedicated staff team.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the class teacher to support learning and development within the Early Years Foundation Stage (FS2) and Key Stage 1. A key focus of the role is to help children develop strong foundations in FS2, ensuring they are well prepared for a smooth and successful transition into KS1.

You will contribute to high-quality provision in line with the EYFS Framework, supporting children across the prime and specific areas of learning. This includes promoting communication and language development, personal, social and emotional development, and early literacy and mathematics.

Duties will include:

Supporting the delivery of planned learning activities within a structured and enabling environment
Supporting children’s learning through play-based and adult-led experiences in line with EYFS principles
Working with small groups and individuals, including providing 1:1 support where required
Delivering Read Write Inc. phonics sessions (experience desirable)
Supporting the development of early reading, writing and language skills
Encouraging independence, engagement and positive learning behaviours
Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of resources

The ideal candidate will:

Have at least 12 months’ recent experience working within an FS2 setting
Demonstrate a sound understanding of the EYFS Framework and Key Stage 1 curriculum
Be able to support children in securing the Early Learning Goals and developing readiness for KS1
Communicate effectively with pupils to reinforce teacher expectations
Be committed to inclusive practice and a child-centred ethos
Work effectively as part of a team under the direction of teaching staff

This post is in accordance with the Council’s Grade 3 Teaching Assistant role, supporting teaching and learning under the supervision of the class teacher.
