Recycling Operative

Job Purpose
The Recycling Operative is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient day-to-day running of the depot. The role involves sorting, processing, loading, and handling recyclable materials while maintaining high standards of quality, housekeeping, and health & safety.
The position plays an important part in ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining customer service standards, and supporting the company’s commitment to ethical, reliable, and sustainable recycling services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Material Handling & Processing
- Assist with the unloading and loading of recyclable materials and finished products
- Sort and prepare recyclable materials for processing
- Operate machinery and equipment safely and efficiently following training and authorisation
- Monitor material quality and report contamination or discrepancies to supervisors
- Stack and store processed materials safely within designated areas
2. Production & Quality
- Support the achievement of daily production targets
- Ensure materials are processed efficiently whilst following safe working procedures
- Maintain quality standards when sorting and processing materials
- Complete required production records and documentation accurately
3. Health & Safety
- Follow all company Health & Safety procedures and safe systems of work
- Maintain high housekeeping standards across the depot
- Use PPE correctly and report hazards, accidents, or unsafe conditions immediately
- Participate in toolbox talks, training, and safety briefings
4. Machinery & Equipment
- Carry out basic daily checks and routine cleaning of machinery and equipment
- Report faults, defects, or maintenance issues promptly
- Operate forklifts or other plant equipment where trained and authorised
5. Security & Compliance
- Follow all security procedures and confidentiality requirements where applicable
- Comply with company policies, environmental regulations, and site procedures
- Complete any required training or certifications relevant to the role
6. Teamwork & General Duties
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure smooth depot operations
- Support other operational duties as required by the business
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude within the workplace

Skills & Experience
- Experience within recycling, manufacturing, warehouse, or operational environments beneficial
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced operational environment
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Forklift licence beneficial (training may be provided)
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work
Training & Development
The successful candidate may be required to undertake internal and external training relevant to the role, including machinery operation, forklift training, health & safety procedures, and security-related processes where applicable.

Pay: £12.71-£14.00 per hour
