Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Taper and Jointer to join our construction team. This role involves specialised finishing work on various building projects, ensuring smooth, seamless surfaces and precise joints. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in carpentry, plastering, or related trades, with a keen eye for detail and quality craftsmanship. This position offers an opportunity to work on diverse projects within a dynamic environment, contributing to high standards of construction finish.
Duties
- Execute taping and jointing of drywall or plasterboard to achieve a smooth surface ready for painting or finishing.
- Apply joint compounds accurately, ensuring seamless joints between panels or surfaces.
- Sand and finish surfaces to meet specified standards of quality and appearance.
- Use hand tools such as trowels, knives, and sanding blocks to prepare surfaces effectively.
- Operate power tools including drills, saws, and sanders safely and efficiently.
- Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, or specifications to ensure precise application of materials.
- Assist with surface preparation tasks such as cleaning, masking, or priming prior to finishing work.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople such as carpenters, masons, or electricians to coordinate project progress.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area to promote safety and efficiency on site.
Requirements
- Proven experience in plastering, taping, jointing or related construction trades such as carpentry or masonry.
- Knowledge of roofing, plumbing, welding, electrical systems, construction painting, fabrication, or masonry is advantageous.
- Familiarity with hand tools and power tools used in finishing trades.
- Ability to read schematics and technical drawings accurately.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on achieving high-quality finishes.
- Good physical fitness; able to lift heavy materials and work in various positions for extended periods.
- Construction experience in commercial or residential projects preferred.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant safety certifications or willingness to undertake health & safety training is desirable.
