About the Role
As a Railway Station Maintenance Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and day-to-day functionality of station electrical infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical assets across the station environment operate efficiently, supporting both passenger services and operational staff.
Your work will cover a wide range of systems, from general station lighting and power supplies to more critical infrastructure such as emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, CCTV, public address systems, ticketing equipment, lifts, and escalators support systems.
This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You will respond to both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and reactive fault calls, often working under time pressure to minimise disruption to passengers and train services. A strong emphasis is placed on fault diagnosis, requiring you to quickly identify issues, carry out effective repairs, and restore systems safely.
Working in an active rail environment means you will need to be highly aware of health & safety procedures, including working near live equipment, within public areas, and sometimes during engineering hours when stations are closed. You’ll often coordinate with station managers, control centres, and other engineering disciplines, ensuring that all work is carried out with minimal operational impact.
The role may involve:
- Working independently during quieter periods.
- Participating in team-based projects, such as station upgrades or refurbishments
- Supporting emergency response situations, such as power failures or safety system faults
- Carrying out inspections and compliance testing to meet regulatory standards
- Using maintenance management systems to log jobs, updates, and reports
Flexibility is key, as shifts may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and occasional on-call duties depending on operational needs.
Ultimately, you will be a key part of ensuring that the station remains a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for passengers, while supporting the wider rail network’s performance and reliability.
