Full job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Garden Centre Plant Assistant to join our team. This role involves supporting the daily operations of our garden centre, assisting customers with plant selections, and maintaining the organisation and presentation of our plant displays. The ideal candidate will have a passion for gardening and horticulture, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a busy retail environment. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge of plants and customer service within a friendly team.

Duties

Assisting customers with plant selection, providing expert advice on plant care and maintenance
Maintaining the health and appearance of plants through watering, pruning, and general care
Supporting merchandising efforts by arranging plants according to colour, size, and type
Keeping the plant area clean, tidy, and well-presented at all times
Providing information about horticultural products and promoting ongoing gardening projects
Supporting the team with general centre duties including inventory management and stock rotation

Skills

Knowledge of gardening and horticulture principles is highly desirable
Good interpersonal skills to provide friendly, helpful customer service
Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
Passion for plants and gardening, with an eagerness to learn more about horticultural practices

This role offers an engaging environment for individuals interested in gardening, retail, or horticulture. Candidates should be organised, enthusiastic, and committed to delivering excellent customer experiences while maintaining high standards within the garden centre.

The role is for 21 hours a week. The shift is every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10am until 5pm. This begins as a temporary role but could become permanent to the right candidate.
