We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Behavioural Support Mentor to join our team in Bath. As a Behavioural Support Mentor, you will play a crucial role in providing guidance, interventions, and strategies to support individuals with challenging behaviours. Your expertise in behaviour management and your passion for making a positive difference in the lives of others will be instrumental in helping individuals overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities:

Behavioural Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments to understand the underlying factors contributing to challenging behaviours. Use evidence-based tools and observations to gather relevant information and develop appropriate intervention plans.

Individualised Support: Provide one-on-one support to individuals with challenging behaviours, tailoring interventions to their specific needs and circumstances. Implement behaviour management strategies, teach appropriate coping skills, and promote positive social interactions.

Collaborative Planning: Work closely with individuals, their families, and a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement behaviour support plans. Collaborate on goal-setting, behaviour targets, and progress monitoring, ensuring consistency across different environments.

Positive Behaviour Reinforcement: Implement strategies to reinforce positive behaviours, focusing on strengths and providing recognition and rewards for desired behaviours. Foster a supportive and nurturing environment that encourages growth, self-esteem, and personal development.

Crisis Intervention: Respond to challenging situations or crisis incidents, employing de-escalation techniques and maintaining a calm and composed approach. Implement crisis management plans to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.

Training and Education: Deliver training sessions and workshops to parents, caregivers, and other professionals to enhance their understanding of behaviour management strategies. Provide guidance on implementing consistent approaches and reinforcing positive behaviours in different settings.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of interventions, progress, and outcomes. Prepare comprehensive reports and contribute to individualized education plans (IEPs) or behavioural support plans as required.

Requirements:

Relevant Qualifications: Hold a degree or certification in Psychology, Education, Special Education, or a related field. Additional training in behaviour management, positive behaviour support, or therapeutic interventions is advantageous.
Experience: Demonstrate a strong background in working with individuals with challenging behaviours. Previous experience in a behavioural support role, special education setting, or similar environment is highly desirable.
Behavioural Strategies: Possess a solid understanding of behaviour management techniques, positive behaviour reinforcement, and strategies to address challenging behaviours. Familiarity with evidence-based interventions, such as Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), is a plus.
Empathy and Patience: Show empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach when working with individuals with challenging behaviours. Build trusting relationships and create a safe and supportive environment for their growth and development.
Communication and Collaboration: Exhibit excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate with individuals, families, and a multidisciplinary team. Collaborate with colleagues, sharing insights and strategies to provide consistent support.
Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to overcome behavioural challenges. Adapt interventions and approaches based on individual needs and changing circumstances.
Professionalism and Ethics: Uphold professional ethics and maintain confidentiality when working with individuals and their families. Adhere to relevant codes of conduct and safeguarding policies.
