Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a friendly and efficient Cafe Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering excellent customer service, assisting with food and beverage preparation, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. This role offers an opportunity to develop skills in food service and barista operations within a dynamic café setting. Prior experience in food safety and serving is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Serve customers promptly and courteously, taking orders accurately and efficiently
Prepare a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee and tea, adhering to quality standards
Assist with food preparation tasks such as assembling sandwiches, salads, or snacks
Maintain cleanliness of the café area, including tables, counters, and equipment
Ensure compliance with food safety regulations at all times
Manage cash register operations, including handling payments accurately using basic maths skills
Restock supplies as needed to ensure smooth daily operations
Support team members during busy periods to deliver excellent customer experiences
Follow time management practices to ensure prompt service during peak hours

Requirements

Previous barista experience or familiarity with coffee-making is essential
Knowledge of food safety standards and procedures is preferred
Experience in serving customers in a fast-paced environment is advantageous, the cafe gets very busy on weekends
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively during busy periods
Good communication skills and a friendly demeanour
Ability to work well within a team and independently when required
Flexibility to work shifts as scheduled, weekend availability is essential
