This role requires opening and closing of a school site.
Palladian Academy Trust is seeking a highly motivated, proactive, and reliable School Caretaker to join our Estates team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in creating a safe, secure, and inspiring learning environment for pupils, staff, and the wider community. You will be working closely with the Trust Estates Lead and school teams, ensuring our sites are well-maintained and operate efficiently.
As the first and last face of the school each day, you will be a friendly, approachable presence for parents, pupils, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
As School Caretaker, you will:
- Ensure the security, safety, and general upkeep of school buildings and grounds
- Open and close school sites
- Carry out a range of maintenance and repair tasks (e.g. plumbing, decorating, repairs)
- Respond promptly to reactive and unplanned maintenance issues
- Conduct health & safety checks and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
- Oversee and liaise with external contractors, ensuring adherence to RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
- Support Trust-wide estates projects, compliance tasks, and site improvements
- Cover absence and provide support across other Trust schools where required
- Utilise school holiday periods to complete planned maintenance and improvement works
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in site maintenance, caretaking, or facilities management
- Knowledgeable in health & safety and building compliance requirements
- Skilled in a range of practical DIY tasks including plumbing, decorating and repairs
- Highly organised, able to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced environment
- A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Calm and effective in emergency situations
- Trustworthy, discreet, and able to handle confidential information
- Professional, reliable, and committed to high standards
- Emotionally intelligent, with the ability to manage sensitive situations appropriately
Experience in a school setting is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided.
