About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, proactive and compliance-focused Transport Manager to oversee our HGV transport operation based at London Meridian Water.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing daily transport operations, leading drivers and supervisors, and ensuring full compliance with DVSA, Operator Licence, Traffic Commissioner and Health & Safety requirements.
You will act as the nominated Transport Manager on the company’s HGV Operator Licence, ensuring effective and continuous management of the transport operation.
The fleet includes skip vehicles, roll-on/roll-off vehicles and tractor units, together with company vans used within the wider operation.

Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee daily transport operations from the London Meridian Water operating centre.
Lead, train, support and motivate drivers and supervisors.
Conduct driver assessments, briefings and toolbox talks.
Ensure compliance with DVSA, Operator Licence, Traffic Commissioner and Health & Safety requirements.
Act as the nominated Transport Manager on the company’s HGV Operator Licence.
Maintain effective and continuous control of the transport operation.
Ensure that the company maintains good repute and meets the standards expected by the Traffic Commissioner.
Verify driver licences, Driver CPC cards, tachograph cards and relevant driver documentation.
Monitor vehicle compliance, including MOT, roadworthiness, insurance, safety inspections and maintenance records.
Schedule and coordinate vehicle safety inspections, repairs and defect rectification with external service providers.
Review PMI reports, defect reports, brake test records and maintenance documentation.
Ensure all vehicle defects are properly reported, investigated, rectified and recorded.
Order vehicle parts where required and maintain accurate records.
Review and verify drivers’ hours, tachograph data and working time records before weekly payroll processing.
Investigate infringements, missing mileage and any failure to follow company procedures.
Take appropriate corrective or disciplinary action for non-compliance and maintain investigation records.
Review, investigate and where appropriate challenge PCNs, toll charges, parking fines and other transport-related penalty notices.
Monitor fleet and driver performance and identify opportunities to improve compliance, safety, efficiency and service levels.
Maintain clear and professional communication with drivers, supervisors, workshops, senior management and external service providers.
Participate in the company on-call rota to support out-of-hours transport operations.
What We’re Looking For
International CPC Transport Manager qualification is essential.
Previous experience as a Transport Manager or in a similar transport compliance role.
Minimum 2 years’ professional driving experience, preferably within HGV operations.
Strong knowledge of transport law, drivers’ hours, tachograph rules, Working Time Directive and vehicle compliance.
Good understanding of DVSA standards, Operator Licence undertakings and Traffic Commissioner expectations.
Experience with HGV operations involving skip vehicles, roll-on/roll-off vehicles, tractor units or similar would be advantageous.
Experience with transport compliance systems such as TruTac, Convey, Tachomaster, Truckfile, R2C, FleetCheck or similar would be advantageous.
Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
Good communication skills and the ability to deal professionally with drivers, supervisors, workshops and management.
Proactive approach to problem-solving, decision-making and compliance management.
Confident working in a fast-paced transport environment with multiple priorities.
Able to enforce company policies and compliance standards fairly, consistently and professionally.
The successful candidate must be able to satisfy Traffic Commissioner requirements in relation to professional competence, good repute and effective and continuous management.

Pay: £50,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
