Overview
South West Metal Finishing (SWMF) is looking to recruit an experienced and proactive Environmental Controller to support the effective management of environmental compliance and sustainability across our Yeovil site.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with environmental management experience to play a key role in maintaining our Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, and driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the business.
The successful candidate will have the authority to take any action necessary to ensure full compliance with the Company's Environmental Policy and environmental management procedures.
Duties
- Monitor and manage environmental aspects across the site, including water, energy, and waste.
- Attend and contribute to Environmental Management Review meetings.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory requirements, including Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) and Water Discharge Consents.
- Prepare and submit reports to regulatory authorities as required.
- Conduct internal process and procedural audits in accordance with ISO 14001 requirements.
- Maintain the Company's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and support external accreditation audits.
- Oversee the operation and compliance of the Effluent Treatment Plant.
- Manage waste handling, storage, disposal, and recycling activities.
- Investigate and report environmental incidents, accidents, and non-conformances, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Support the site's Health & Safety activities and initiatives.
- Carry out risk assessments and support the implementation of control measures.
- Deliver inductions and onboarding activities for new employees.
- Support continuous improvement activities relating to environmental and operational performance.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in an environmental compliance, environmental management, or similar role.
- Experience of internal auditing within an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Good understanding of environmental legislation and regulatory compliance.
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and liaise effectively with employees, management, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
- IMF Technician's Certificate.
- Level II Business Improvement Techniques.
- Experience of managing or overseeing Effluent Treatment Plants.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and risk assessments.
- Knowledge of waste management best practices and environmental reporting requirements.
