Summary

Royal Docks Waterways is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to become part of its experienced engineering team, supporting the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure across the iconic Royal Docks estate. This is a hands-on and varied role offering the opportunity to work on a fascinating range of mechanical systems and marine infrastructure in a historic yet evolving part of London.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of essential dockside assets, delivering both planned and reactive maintenance with minimal disruption to operations.

What You’ll Be Working on

You’ll take responsibility for maintaining and supporting a diverse portfolio of specialist assets, including:

Two static bridges, two swing bridges and one bascule bridge
Lock gates and sluice gates
Small marina craft lock systems
Hydraulic and mechanical operating systems
Pumping stations and a small sewage treatment plant
Six powerpack houses
Work vessels and associated marine equipment

Key Responsibilities

Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across the estate
Diagnosing faults quickly and implementing effective solutions
Supporting the procurement and management of critical spare parts
Reporting defects, breakdowns and anomalies in a timely manner
Providing technical support to the Engineering Project Manager
Working collaboratively with the engineering team while also using initiative
independently
Participating in an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota

Essential Skills & Experience

City & Guilds qualification (or equivalent) in Mechanical Installation and/or Maintenance
Experience working with hydraulic systems
Previous hands-on engineering or maintenance experience in a similar environment
Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation
Experience delivering planned maintenance programmes
Full UK driving licence
Ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team

Desirable Experience

Marine electrical systems knowledge
Experience working within a marine or waterways environment
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities
Process-driven and proactive approach to maintenance
