Full job description

We are looking for a chef to support a busy operation at the Worthgate School in Canterbury. Working with a team of 4 chefs. working 5 out of 7 days working both early shifts and late shift operations.

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Commis Chef to join our dynamic culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation, cooking, and delivering exceptional dining experiences. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary skills within a professional hospitality environment, working alongside experienced chefs and management. The Commis Chef will be responsible for supporting the kitchen team in food production, ensuring high standards of food safety and presentation are maintained at all times.

Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and cooking of a variety of dishes in accordance with restaurant standards and recipes
Support senior chefs in food presentation and garnishing to ensure visual appeal
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workstations, adhering to food safety regulations
Contribute to the efficient running of the kitchen by managing multiple tasks simultaneously
Supervise junior staff when required, providing guidance and support in food preparation and service
Ensure all ingredients are stored correctly, rotated, and used within their shelf life
Participate in stock control, inventory management, and ordering supplies as needed
Uphold high standards of hygiene and safety throughout all kitchen operations

Qualifications

Proven experience in a professional kitchen environment or hospitality setting
Strong knowledge of food production, preparation, and cooking techniques
Demonstrable leadership skills with experience supervising or managing team members
Familiarity with food safety standards and regulations within a restaurant or catering environment
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and management
Previous experience in restaurant settings or culinary roles is highly desirable
Passion for delivering exceptional customer service through quality food presentation and service
