Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Monitor company profitability, costs, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Manage purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll, and credit control functions.
- Produce financial reports for directors and provide recommendations for business improvement.
- Ensure timely invoicing of customers, insurers, motoring organisations, and commercial clients.
- Oversee debt collection and minimise aged debt.
- Manage banking, reconciliations, VAT returns, and statutory financial reporting.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, and financial institutions.
- Develop and maintain robust financial controls and procedures.
Operational Management
- Oversee daily recovery and transport operations to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Monitor vehicle utilisation, driver performance, response times, and operational productivity.
- Review operational processes and implement improvements to increase efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor contract performance and service level agreements (SLAs).
Staff Management
- Lead, motivate, and support office and operational staff.
- Assist with recruitment, induction, training, and performance management.
- Conduct regular staff reviews and identify development opportunities.
- Manage attendance, leave requests, and workforce planning.
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate records relating to vehicles, drivers, insurance, and fleet operations.
- Support audits and regulatory inspections.
- Ensure compliance with data protection and employment legislation.
- Maintain business continuity and risk management procedures.
Customer & Commercial Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, insurers, breakdown organisations, and suppliers.
- Handle escalated customer issues and complaints professionally.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and develop new business.
- Assist with tender submissions and contract negotiations.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in finance, operations, or business management.
- Strong financial management and budgeting experience.
- Experience managing staff and operational processes.
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- AAT, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, or equivalent financial qualification.
- Experience within vehicle recovery, transport, logistics, fleet management, or automotive sectors.
- Knowledge of Operator Licensing requirements and transport legislation.
- Experience with payroll and HR administration.
- Experience managing contracts and service level agreements.
