Full job description

In-person and online - self-employed

Sunbeam Education is looking for experienced tutors to support children and young people with special educational needs.

Our students often need help with a particular subject alongside difficulties with focus, organisation, confidence, communication or independent study. We are particularly interested in tutors who understand ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety and other barriers to learning.

You will provide one-to-one tutoring online, in person within your local area, or a mixture of both.

About the role

You will plan engaging, personalised sessions around each student’s needs, strengths and goals.

Your work may include:

helping students understand challenging topics and fill gaps in knowledge;
preparing students for GCSEs, A levels and other assessments;
adapting lessons for different learning needs;
supporting revision, organisation, time management and study skills;
building positive relationships with students and their families;
providing clear and constructive feedback after sessions.

We are looking for tutors who are knowledgeable, patient and reliable. You should be curious about why a student is struggling and willing to adapt your approach rather than expecting every student to learn in the same way.

Tutors set their own availability and can choose whether to accept each student.

What Sunbeam offers

£44–£64 per 60-minute session, depending on qualifications and experience;
flexible, self-employed work;
in-person opportunities within an agreed travelling distance;
online tutoring with students across the UK;
matching based on your subjects, experience, location and availability;
booking and payment administration;
opportunities to build regular, long-term relationships with students;
support from Sunbeam if a placement needs to be reviewed.

What we are looking for

Applicants must have:

Qualified Teacher Status;
experience teaching or tutoring children or young people;
experience supporting at least one special educational need or learning difference;
an Enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service;
Level 2 safeguarding training or equivalent;
the right to work in the UK;
strong spoken and written English.

Tutors must also hold public liability insurance of at least £2 million and professional indemnity insurance of at least £1 million before accepting a student. You may apply before arranging this insurance.

We would be particularly interested to hear from tutors with experience in:

ADHD, autism, dyslexia or executive-function difficulties;
anxiety or emotionally based school avoidance;
GCSE or A-level Maths, English or Science;
primary SEN teaching;
SENCO work;
daytime or in-person tutoring.
