An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the constituency office of Liam Byrne MP as a Senior Caseworker, supporting residents across Birmingham Hodge Hill and Solihull North. This role sits at the heart of public service, helping constituents navigate complex issues and ensuring their concerns are heard by the organisations and agencies responsible for delivering support.
You will manage a varied caseload covering areas such as housing, immigration, welfare benefits, health services, education, local government and other public services. Working closely with constituents, government departments, local authorities, housing associations, charities and community organisations, you will play a key role in helping people secure the assistance they need.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with existing casework experience who wants to use their skills to make a meaningful impact within a busy and rewarding parliamentary office.

Desirable Experience
We welcome applications from individuals with a range of backgrounds; however, particular consideration will be given to candidates with:
- Previous casework experience within a Member of Parliament's office.
- Experience supporting elected representatives, including councillors, mayors or other public office holders.
- Experience working in local government, housing, advice services, welfare support, community engagement or related public service roles.
- Knowledge of the issues affecting communities across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
- An understanding of parliamentary processes, local government structures and public sector decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and resolve constituency casework across a broad range of policy and public service areas.
- Liaise with government departments, local authorities, housing providers and other agencies on behalf of constituents.
- Draft high-quality correspondence, briefings and responses.
- Maintain accurate and compliant casework records in accordance with GDPR and office procedures.
- Support constituency surgeries, meetings and community events.
- Assist with stakeholder engagement, local campaigns and community outreach activity.
- Ensure constituents receive timely, professional and effective support throughout their engagement with the office.
- Identify recurring local issues and contribute to wider policy, campaigning or community engagement work where appropriate.
Additional Information
· The role is primarily office-based within the constituency, although some flexibility may be available.
· Occasional evening and weekend working may be required, along with occasional travel within the constituency.
· Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to public service, an awareness of UK political and parliamentary processes, and an understanding of the values and objectives of the Labour Party.
· Upon appointment, the successful candidate will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) undertaken by the Members' Staff Verification Office (MSVO).
· Salary and conditions will be in line with IPSA staffing guidelines.
