As our business continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced Retail Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of our retail operations, improve operational efficiency, strengthen supplier relationships and support the continued commercial growth of the business.
This role is ideal for an experienced retail professional who enjoys leading operational improvements, managing inventory and suppliers, analysing business performance and delivering exceptional customer service.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Director, you will be responsible for the overall operational performance of the business, ensuring the efficient management of stock, suppliers, store operations and customer service.
You will play an important role in improving operational processes, maintaining high retail standards and supporting the company's long-term growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operational management of the retail business, ensuring efficient and commercially effective store performance.
- Plan, organise and monitor retail operations to maximise productivity, profitability and customer satisfaction.
- Oversee inventory management, stock forecasting and replenishment to maintain optimum stock levels whilst reducing waste and stock loss.
- Analyse sales trends, customer demand and stock performance to support purchasing decisions and maximise product availability.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, coordinating procurement activities and ensuring timely delivery of goods.
- Monitor supplier performance and negotiate improvements in product availability, delivery schedules and operational efficiency where appropriate.
- Prepare operational reports and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Develop, review and implement operational procedures and standard operating processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Ensure products are accurately priced, appropriately displayed and effectively merchandised to maximise sales opportunities.
- Monitor operating costs and recommend practical measures to improve business efficiency and profitability.
- Maintain high standards of customer service, responding promptly and professionally to customer enquiries and complaints.
- Ensure compliance with food hygiene legislation, health and safety requirements and company policies.
- Maintain accurate operational records relating to inventory, supplier transactions, stock reconciliation and retail performance.
- Support the recruitment, induction, training and supervision of retail staff as the business grows.
- Work closely with the Director to implement operational improvements and support future business expansion.
Essential Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Business Management, Operations Management, Project Management or a related discipline, or equivalent management experience.
- Previous experience managing retail operations within a supermarket, grocery, convenience or similar retail environment.
- Strong knowledge of inventory management, procurement and supplier coordination.
- Experience analysing operational performance and implementing process improvements.
- Excellent organisational, leadership and communication skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and retail management systems.
Desirable
- Experience working within grocery or food retail.
- Knowledge of African and Caribbean food products and consumer markets.
- Experience introducing operational systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience managing or supervising retail teams.
