Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of Maths to lead our mathematics department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mathematics and education, with the ability to inspire and mentor both staff and students. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our learners, fostering a passion for maths while ensuring high standards of teaching and behaviour management. The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing curriculum delivery, supporting staff development, and promoting a positive learning environment. Responsibilities

Lead and manage the maths department, ensuring high-quality teaching standards across all year groups
Mentor and support teaching staff through professional development programmes and regular coaching sessions
Develop and implement innovative maths curricula aligned with national standards and tailored to diverse learner needs
Oversee behaviour management strategies within the department to promote a positive classroom environment
Organise tutoring programmes and extra-curricular activities to enhance student engagement in maths
Collaborate with colleagues across departments to integrate scientific research, biochemistry, or laboratory experience where relevant
Proofread curriculum materials, assessments, and student work to maintain accuracy and clarity
Support students with special educational needs, including those requiring tailored approaches or behaviour management strategies
Foster effective communication with parents, carers, and external agencies regarding student progress
Promote inclusive practices within the department, ensuring accessibility for all learners

Requirements

Proven experience in teaching maths at secondary or higher education levels
Strong mentoring skills with a track record of staff development
Knowledge of biochemistry, scientific research, or laboratory experience is desirable but not essential
Experience in special education or behaviour management strategies is advantageous
Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging students, staff, and parents effectively
Demonstrated ability to proofread educational materials accurately
Passion for teaching, tutoring, and inspiring learners in mathematics
Organised approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a busy academic environment
