About Us
Mountain Bike Club provides engaging, outdoor-based Alternative Provision programmes for young people who face barriers to mainstream education. Through mountain biking, outdoor learning, mentoring, and personal development activities, we help young people build confidence, resilience, self-esteem, and positive futures.
Our programmes support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH), those at risk of exclusion, and young people requiring a more personalised approach to learning.
The Role
We are seeking passionate, energetic, and committed Alternative Provision Mentors/Instructors to join our growing team. You will work directly with young people in outdoor environments, delivering engaging activities while providing consistent support, guidance, and positive role modelling.
The successful candidate will build trusted relationships with students, helping them develop confidence, improve behaviour, and achieve personal and educational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, engaging mountain biking and outdoor learning sessions.
- Support young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
- Act as a positive role model and mentor.
- Develop individual learning and engagement plans.
- Monitor, record, and report student progress.
- Work collaboratively with schools, families, and external professionals.
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion at all times.
- Maintain equipment and ensure activities are delivered safely.
About You
You will be someone who:
- Is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to success.
- Has experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, sports coaching, outdoor education, or alternative provision settings.
- Can build strong, professional relationships based on trust and respect.
- Remains calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations.
- Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Enjoys working outdoors in all seasons.
Essential Requirements
- Experience supporting young people with additional needs or challenging behaviour.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable Qualifications
- Mountain bike leadership or coaching qualifications.
- Outdoor education qualifications.
- Youth work, teaching assistant, sports coaching, or mentoring experience.
- First Aid qualification.
- Safeguarding training.
