About the Role

We're looking for an experienced, technically strong and tech-savvy Senior Accountant to join our practice.

Management of the firm's external bookkeeping and VAT function forms a significant part of the role, but we're equally looking for someone who can apply strong technical knowledge to preparing and reviewing accounts, resolving complex accounting and tax issues, and supporting colleagues with technical queries across a varied portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.

You'll take ownership of technical review work, help resolve accounting and tax queries, and play an active role in developing our Making Tax Digital (MTD) services as they continue to evolve.

Cloud accounting platforms sit at the heart of how we work, and we're actively developing our use of AI-driven tools and automation. We're therefore looking for someone who embraces technology, enjoys finding better ways of working and can help shape the future direction of the practice while maintaining the high technical standards our clients expect.

This is a hands-on senior role with significant autonomy and influence, but without formal line-management responsibility.

We're happy to discuss full-time or part-time hours and both permanent and temporary/interim arrangements. Our priority is finding the right person and building the role around them.

Responsibilities

Managing the firm's bookkeeping and VAT function, reviewing work, resolving queries and helping maintain high standards across the client portfolio
Supporting the development of our Making Tax Digital (MTD) services and processes
Preparing and reviewing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
Preparing and reviewing personal and corporate tax returns
Researching and resolving technical accounting and tax issues
Supporting colleagues with bookkeeping, VAT, accounting and tax queries
Payroll work, including assisting with the transition to payrolling benefits
Contributing to the development and implementation of technology, automation and AI-driven solutions across the practice

About You

Minimum 5 years' experience gained within an accountancy practice environment
Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge
Confident reviewing the work of others, not just producing your own
Comfortable researching and resolving complex accounting, VAT and tax issues
Tech-savvy, with strong working knowledge of cloud accounting platforms and an interest in AI-driven tools and automation
Experience with e-commerce clients would be an advantage but is not essential
Comfortable taking ownership of clients, projects and your own workload
Strong communicator, equally at ease dealing with clients and colleagues
Organised, proactive and able to work independently

Half-day Friday as standard
