HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Senior Project Controls Manager – Planning & Project controls

Location:

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role description:

To establish and implement the HS2 requirements for Project Controls as per WI-505.

Ensure compliance to HS2 requirements.

Review subcontractor programmes as and when necessary to ensure they align with the Clause 32 Programme.

Co-ordinate and contribute to the production and delivery of the Performance Measurement Baseline and Performance Measurement Updates.

Interrogate the current and forecast programme, budget, cost, and risk at asset and sub-asset level.

Ensure the Clause 32 programme in Mainline South is fit-for-purpose when submitted to the Enabling Team and all narratives are checked prior to submission.

Promote best practice and innovation.

Liaise with Senior Project Controls Manager (Enabling) & HR in the recruitment of Planning and Reporting roles, conduct interviews and assist with the development of all planning and project control staff to reach their full potential.

Contribute to and participate in the weekly Project Controls meeting with the Project Controls Director.

Assist with coaching and supporting of project control and planning staff, as required.

Ensure that appropriate lean, coordinated and visual performance metrics are set up to assist the Project Team to timely deliver projects and improve performance.

• Effectively using IT and systems as a key enabler for gathering and timely submission of project performance to the client. • Ensure trackers for Network Rail and HS2 GAH, are continually monitored and kept up-to date.

Contribute to and liaise with the Network Rail Steering group on possession interfaces.

Essential Experience:

Considerable, in-depth experience of planning & project control services within large complex environments within the construction and engineering industry.

Understanding of various forms of tender documents, contract documents and specifications

Advanced understanding of various methods of project controls, planning and performance reporting.

Experience in risk and opportunity management.

Advanced understanding of the events that initiate, and of the methods used to demonstrate, delay or change entitlement.

Good understanding of the construction market, methods of construction, plant, equipment and labour requirements.

Experience in coaching, mentoring and developing others.
