We are looking to strengthen our digital presence by recruiting a multi-talented Content Creator & Editor who can seamlessly bridge the gap between high-quality journalism and engaging video storytelling.
In this role, primarily you will be writing/editing lifestyle and news articles, and you will then bring them to life using video and audio.
We are looking for a tech-savvy creator who views AI as a vital partner in their workflow, using it to maximise productivity and reach new audience heights.
You will also help develop new feature article and news writers on our development programme to support your content output.
Your enthusiasm, proactive attitude and communication skills will be tested by the confidence you show in taking ownership of this role.
Any prior online writing, editing and publishing experience along with having responsibility for making publishing decisions is very desirable for this role.
The Role
You will be a driven multimedia professional with an eye for "catchy" daily news and deep-dive features that resonate with the British South Asian community. The ideal candidate is a hybrid talent: someone who can write a compelling 1,500-word feature article while simultaneously producing a viral-ready video for TikTok, Instagram and special reports for our YouTube channel.
Development of your skills is non-negotiable. You will be expected to learn and integrate AI tools into your daily workflow. From research and SEO/AEO optimisation to video editing and asset generation. Ensuring our output remains prolific and competitive.
Training and support will be provided for this role to help you use your existing experience and learn new skills.
Key Requirements & Responsibilities
1. Multimedia Content Creation
- Daily News: Source and publish a minimum of 5 daily news stories (Mon–Sun) using social media and reliable sources. These must be delivered as both written articles and short-form video updates.
- Deep-Dive Features: Produce 5 weekly features (1500–2500 words) for specific lifestyle sections, using journalistic approaches such as public interaction and investigative research.
- Video Production: Be the face and voice of the brand when required. Create, film, and edit high-quality video content to accompany news and features. For example, weekly interviews with the public, celebrities and socially known individuals.
- Visual Design: Produce relevant, correctly sized images and promotional graphics using Canva, Adobe etc.
2. AI & Strategic Innovation
- AI Integration: Proactively utilise AI tools to expedite your workflow, generate audience-matching content, and automate routine tasks to meet high-volume output targets.
- Data-Driven Growth: Use analytics and reports to review content performance and adapt your strategy to improve engagement and readership.
- Social Distribution: Distribute daily news and features across social channels (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) using creative video and post formats to grow our following.
3. Editorial Leadership & Standards
- Editorial Ownership: Take full responsibility for the "house style," ensuring impeccable UK grammar, catchy headlines, and factual accuracy.
- Mentorship: Support the development of new writers and creators within our development programme, providing publishing support and feedback.
- Compliance: Maintain a strict understanding of legal standards, including the UK Editors’ Code of Practice, media law, and copyright law.
- Collaboration: Work with the Senior Editor on long-term content strategies and attend weekly editorial meetings to report on engagement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Dual Competency: Proven ability to produce both high-standard written UK English journalism and engaging digital video content.
- AI Proficiency: Essential. Experience using AI tools for content research, development, and workflow optimisation.
- Technical Toolkit: Proficiency in writing using WordPress (CMS), video editing software (CapCut, Premiere Pro, etc.), and graphic design tools (Canva/Photoshop).
- Niche Knowledge: A deep understanding of the British South Asian audience and the ability to find stories that matter to them.
- Pressure Management: Experience working in a 24-hour news cycle environment with the ability to work under pressure and react to breaking trends.
- Communication: Outstanding research and communication skills with a "can-do" attitude with no excuses, just results.
- Quick Thinker: Proven ability to think quickly provide immediacy to the needs of a fast online content environment.
Position Details & Application
- Type: Hybrid (Minimum 1-2 days per week in our Birmingham office for video content production and public interaction, and the remainder remote).
