Full job description

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Management Accountant to join the small and busy finance team at Somers Handling, an industrial lifting company based in Wednesbury.

This is a varied, hands-on finance role covering management accounts, payroll, ledger control, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, VAT, year-end preparation, purchase orders and general finance administration.

The role is part-time, around 10 hours per week, with flexibility around the working pattern. This could be structured as shorter days across five days, or two longer days per week. The position is hybrid, although the role will be primarily based on site in Wednesbury, with some flexibility to work from home.

Key Responsibilities

- Preparing monthly management accounts and supporting reports.

- Posting and reviewing journals, including accruals, prepayments and depreciation.

- Maintaining and reconciling key balance sheet accounts.

- Managing payroll processing, reporting and ongoing payroll maintenance.

- Preparing VAT returns and supporting related reconciliations.

- Overseeing nominal ledger, cashbook, purchase ledger and sales ledger activity.

- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.

- Raising and processing purchase orders and supporting related purchasing processes.

- Preparing information for year-end accounts and external Accountants / Auditors.

- Managing supplier payments, customer receipts and general finance administration.

- Liaising with colleagues across the business to resolve finance queries and ensure accurate records.

About You

The successful candidate will be confident working independently while also contributing effectively within a small and busy finance team. You will be organised, accurate and comfortable taking ownership of recurring finance processes and working to deadlines.

You will need a good practical understanding of accounting processes, payroll and Excel, and be able to communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance colleagues.

Essential Skills and Experience

- Relevant accounting qualification, such as AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent experience.

- Experience preparing management accounts.

- Strong payroll experience, including processing, reporting and maintenance.

- Good understanding of journals, including depreciation, accruals and prepayments.

- Sound knowledge of nominal ledger, cashbook, purchase ledger and sales ledger.

- Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.

- Strong Excel skills, particularly pivot tables and VLOOKUP.

- Ability to work independently and manage recurring deadlines.

- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Desirable Experience

- Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing business.

- Experience working in a small finance team or standalone finance role.

- Familiarity with accounting or business management systems.

- Experience using Xero accounting software.

Working Pattern

This is a part-time position of approximately 10 hours per week, with flexibility around how the hours are arranged.

The role will be mainly office-based in Wednesbury, with some flexibility to work from home.

Pay: £20.00-£30.00 per hour

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Wednesbury WS10 7SH
