Full job description

SIA Security Officer – College Campus Security

£12.71 per hour | Full-Time / Zero Hours Contract

Important Information

This position is primarily based within a college environment.

Applicants must also be willing to work additional weekend shifts at other KBG Security venues and events, including wedding venues, pubs, bars, and licensed premises where required.

Flexibility to work across multiple sites and environments is essential.

Job Purpose

The Security Officer will be responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and wellbeing of staff, students, visitors, and contractors across the college campus.

The role involves access control, campus patrols, incident response, safeguarding awareness, and providing a professional and reassuring presence throughout the site. Security Officers play a key role in supporting a safe and welcoming learning environment while ensuring compliance with college policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Security
Maintain a visible security presence throughout the college campus.
Monitor entrances, exits, and other access points.
Prevent unauthorised access to college premises.
Identify and report security, safety, or welfare concerns.

Safeguarding

Remain vigilant to safeguarding concerns and follow college safeguarding procedures.
Report concerns relating to the safety or wellbeing of students promptly and appropriately.
Support the college's commitment to providing a safe environment for all learners.

Access Control

Monitor and control access to college buildings.
Ensure visitors, contractors, and staff comply with site procedures.
Manage sign-in and visitor management processes where required.

Campus Patrols

Conduct regular internal and external patrols.
Identify hazards, maintenance issues, and security concerns.
Provide assistance and reassurance to students, staff, and visitors.

Incident Response

Respond promptly and professionally to incidents and emergencies.
Support emergency evacuation procedures when required.
Liaise with college staff, management, and emergency services where necessary.

Conflict Management

Manage challenging situations professionally and calmly.
Use effective communication and de-escalation techniques.
Support staff in maintaining a safe and respectful environment.

Report Writing

Complete accurate incident, accident, and occurrence reports.
Maintain clear and professional records in accordance with company and client procedures.

Requirements

Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to work weekends at alternative venues and events when required.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

Previous experience within a school, college, or educational environment.
Safeguarding training or experience working with young people.
First Aid qualification.
Mental Health First Aid or similar wellbeing-related training.

Compliance Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
Employment is subject to satisfactory screening and right-to-work checks.
