The role:
The Assisted Conception Service (ACS) at Glasgow Royal Infirmary is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic registered nurse Band 5 Staff Nurse.
The service is licensed by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) and provides semen analysis, surgical sperm retrieval (SSR), sperm cryopreservation, ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), embryo cryopreservation, donor insemination, oocyte donation, oocyte cryopreservation, and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT).
The ACS laboratory delivers approximately 1100 cycles of IVF/ICSI, 600 frozen thawed embryo transfers and 300 IUIs with both partner’s and donor sperm annually. The Unit was awarded National Service Division funding to provide a Scotland wide PGT service in April 2005 and delivers approximately 75 cycles annually.
The post holder will join a team of dedicated nurses and will participate in the assessment and treatment of infertility.
The post holder will be expected to deliver clinical work at an exceptionally high standard, with meticulous attention to detail.
The post holder should be state registered nurse.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
This is a permanent, part-time post of 22 hours per week.
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
The role is based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Hour to be worked over 3 days out of 7.
Key responsibilities:
Clinical

Assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate evidence based programmes of care, utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and involvement with patient, family, carers and significant others.

Create a culture where clinical practice is proactive and responsive to changing health care needs of the patient.
- Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
- Provide evidence-based information to patients and their partners to facilitate informed choices and establish informed consent.
Professional
- Practice within legal and ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and national legislation, policy, guidelines and procedures.
- Work within the NHS GGC, Health & Safety Policy and guidelines and Executive (HSE) legislation.
- Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner; thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care. · Promote and support innovation in clinical practice.
Education and Research/Training
- Contribute to the provision of an appropriate learning environment in line with NES quality Placement Standards.
- Demonstrate own professional development.
- Participate in research projects aimed at developing evidence based care within the field of infertility and related areas with the ultimate aim of improving patient care.
- Organisational/Managerial
- Participate in the multidisciplinary team meeting where patients results are monitored, interpreted and treatment plans developed.

Certification and competency from Resuscitation Council (UK) in Immediate Life Support or be willing to work towards.
- Teaching is an integral part of the post therefore presentational skills are required.
- Training and competency in venepuncture desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including influencing, negotiating and conflict management skills.
- Ability to be creative and continually look to improve service provision.
