Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialty Doctor in Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery to join Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will become part of a highly regarded multidisciplinary team, delivering specialist Upper GI and bariatric services within a busy tertiary referral centre while contributing to emergency general surgery, teaching, audit and research activities.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Work as a member of the multidisciplinary Upper GI & Bariatric team to provide specialist Upper GI & Bariatric services for outpatients and on the wards. To work flexibly with the 5 Consultants to ensure cover for wards, outpatient clinics and operating lists.
Play a full part in the provision of surgical services, potentially including scheduled out of hours work and resident/non-resident on-call duties on a rota basis with colleagues.
Be involved in the development and planning of surgical services within the Trust.
Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
Participate in audit examining activity, quality and cost of the surgical service. Participate regularly in medical management and audit meetings.
Take part in the appraisal processes of the Hospital and its clinical governance activities
