Lighting Technician

Learning and development
For those starting out in lighting, our Learning and Mentoring Programme has been created by DFL-UK to help train and develop the next generation of lighting professionals.
This unique programme combines:
- Accredited courses from the Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP)
- Training through the Highway Electrical Association (HEA)
- In-house mentoring and development
- Practical, hands-on experience with live projects
The programme is designed to take a Technician from little prior lighting knowledge to a competent Engineer within 3 years.
During this journey, you will work towards recognised professional qualifications including:
- Associate Membership of the ILP (AMILP)
- Engineering Technician (EngTech) accreditation
- Approved Person status through the HEA HERS scheme
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of detailed designs and associated activities for the delivery of lighting and/or electrical schemes.
- Work with the Department Lead and Engineers to ensure scheme designs and works are delivered on time and to budget, delivering best value for our clients.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external customers to understand and develop project objectives and deliverables.
- Build and develop excellent customer relationships.
- Assist with health and safety, environmental and CDM documentation.
- Liaise with clients and other stakeholders in compliance with their processes and reporting requirements.
- Co-operate with the Directors of the company in ensuring the safety of yourself and those around you whilst at work.
- Ensure that any accidents or health and safety incidents are properly reported to the company Health and Safety Representative.
- Ensure that health, safety and environmental issues are properly taken into account during all phases of project work.
Qualifications
- HNC, HND or Degree in an Engineering, Architecture or Ecology-related subject to a minimum grade of 2:2 or above.
- Computer literate, particularly with design packages and the Microsoft Office suite.
- UK/EEC Driving Licence essential, or planning to learn soon.
Skills and Experience
- No previous lighting experience required.
- A keen interest in mechanical or electrical design, architecture, digital modelling, ecology or the environment would be advantageous.
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated and willing to learn.
- Able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues and clients.
