Full job description

Colour Heroes are a family-owned, independent children’s book publisher, creating tailor-made, highly engaging, hand-illustrated books, site maps and activity resources for families. We have a UK-wide portfolio, including national museums, farm attractions, leisure sites, hotels, charities, English Heritage and the National Trust.

We have a unique opportunity for a talented, conscientious commercial illustrator/designer to join our team. The successful candidate will have at least two years proven track record of creating illustrations and artwork ready for print, ideally designed for children and young adults.

There are lots of opportunities for the successful candidate to develop new styles and put their own stamp on each prestigious piece of work. Your key role in the team will be to maintain a high standard of work at all times, ensuring every project, large and small, receives the utmost care and attention to detail. Brand story and visual language is paramount in each project.

This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday as part of our small-friendly team.

Please note that this is an office-based position, you must be able to commute within a sensible distance to the office each day based in Easingwold, which is located 12 miles north of York.

No freelance artists or agencies.

The salary is negotiable and will depend on experience.

Person Specification

It is important that the successful candidate can demonstrate they have the following:

Minimum 2 years proven industry experience ideally working as a commercial illustrator/designer creating print ready artwork files.
Excellent knowledge of Adobe creative suite.
Skilled in creating unique and engaging characters, activities and puzzles for children.
Ideally educated to degree level.
A collaborative and co-operative approach with clients and the rest of the team.
Be attentive and methodical, with a keen eye for detail.
Be open to learning new skills & techniques.
Work efficiently, balancing tight deadlines and frequently shifting priorities.
Must be able to work on own initiative, as well as part of a dynamic team.
High levels of attention to detail, and an ability to focus in an open-plan office environment.

Daily Role

Confidently taking projects from brief, to concept, to approval and delivery and be able to deal with constructive design feed-back from our clients and studio senior team.
Committed to producing accessible, engaging and inclusive communications.
Producing engaging, creative and clear design across multiple formats.
Working collaboratively with other office team members and clients with a can-do attitude
Assisting the marketing team with social media post imagery and internal graphics for in-house marketing mailers.
Preparing accurate print-ready artwork, including correct bleed, safe areas, colour setup, resolution and export requirements.
