Job Description: Founding Member & Curriculum Lead (Volunteer)About the Salaam Community Hub

The Salaam Community Hub operates exclusively as a Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to providing high-quality facility management, administrative support, and an uncompromisingly secure environment for Elective Home Education (EHE). Based in a deeply trusted, historic community center, the Hub serves as the professional guardian of the space where independent learning occurs.

We operate strictly within the Department for Education’s guidelines for out-of-school settings (OOSS), facilitating a structured segregation of activities to ensure absolute operational compliance. Our morning sessions focus on high-quality academic foundations, while our afternoon sessions, led by specialized Youth Workers, focus on holistic maturity, vocational projects, and faith-aligned character building.

Role Overview

Position Title: Founding Member & Curriculum Lead
Position Type: Volunteer Core Committee Position (Project-based milestone fees available; possible transition to a paid role in the future)
Reports To: Board of Directors (CIC)
Location: Bangor Street Community Centre

Purpose of the Role

As a Founding Member and Curriculum Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the pedagogical framework of the Salaam Community Hub. You will design and oversee a visionary, "de-schooled" conceptual mastery approach for morning academic sessions. This role requires an innovative educator who can break away from the high-stress, "conveyor belt" nature of mainstream schooling to craft a learning model that balances academic excellence with student well-being.

Key Responsibilities1. Curriculum Design & Pedagogical Strategy

"De-schooled" Mastery: Define and establish a tailored curriculum framework that rejects anxiety-inducing formal testing in favor of continuous tracking and true intellectual growth.
Academic Focus: Design innovative, real-world learning plans for core academic subjects (Maths, English, and Science) aimed at deep conceptual mastery rather than a shallow spread.
Montessori Integration: Integrate modernized Montessori principles into the curriculum—specifically structuring mixed-age group learning, peer mentoring, and collaborative problem-solving environments.
Compliance Management: Ensure that the formal academic curriculum is strictly and transparently capped at a maximum of 16 hours per week per child, keeping the Hub entirely compliant with OOSS statutory thresholds.

2. Team Building & Talent Vetting

Tutor Recruitment: Interview, vet, and select specialist independent tutors who align with the Hub’s philosophy of supportive, innovative instruction.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all academic staff are trained in continuous, proactive progress tracking (utilizing digital portfolios, reflective diaries, and safe AI tools).
Collaborative Handover: Coordinate closely with the Educational Lead/Head Teacher and afternoon Youth Workers to ensure a seamless transition between morning academic blocks and afternoon vocational/enrichment sessions.

3. Strategic & Financial Development

Grant Funding Proposals: Collaborate directly with the CIC directors on writing and reviewing grant funding proposals, contributing an estimated 10-20% input to secure instructional resources.
Community Alignment: Act as a passionate ambassador for the Hub’s educational manifesto, ensuring the learning environment respects and actively preserves the children's fitra (natural state) and family values.

Qualifications & Experience PreferredExperience

Strong Educator Background: Proven track record as a teacher, educational consultant, or head of department, with demonstrated success in implementing creative learning methodologies.
Alternative Education Expertise: Deep understanding of, or direct experience in, Project-Based Learning (PBL), Interdisciplinary Learning, or Montessori frameworks.
Curriculum Freedom: Thorough familiarity with the UK National Curriculum and GCSE standards, coupled with the vision to utilize "Curriculum Freedom" to design low-anxiety, high-impact paths to mastery.

Skills & Attributes

Visionary Leadership: Passionate about addressing the systemic failures of the state education framework (such as academic overload and process-over-people mentalities).
Regulatory Awareness: Basic understanding of EHE guidelines, Ofsted out-of-school settings guidelines, and a commitment to strict operational compliance.
Uncompromising Safeguarding: A deep personal commitment to child welfare, emotional shielding, and maintaining a secure environment. Note: An enhanced DBS check is mandatory for this role.
