Full job description

Job Summary

FI Construction are seeking a skilled and reliable Plant Fitter to maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide range of plant machinery and equipment. The successful candidate will ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently while minimizing downtime and supporting operational productivity.

This is a full time, permanent role and Monday to Friday.

This role is based in Wrexham or Chorley depending on where you are located and requires travelling to other sites.

Key Responsibilities

Inspect, service, and repair plant machinery and heavy equipment
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults
Carry out preventative maintenance according to schedules
Replace defective parts and components
Perform welding, fabrication, and fitting work where required
Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
Conduct safety checks and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency repairs
Test machinery after repair to ensure proper operation
Liaise with operators, supervisors, and suppliers regarding equipment issues

Required Skills and Qualifications

Proven experience as a Plant Fitter or Mechanical Fitter
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and mechanical systems
Ability to read technical manuals
Fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Welding and fabrication experience advantageous
Good problem-solving abilities
Full driving licence

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant qualifications in plant mechanics, engineering, or operations.
Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, including LOLER & PUWER.
Training certificates in plant operations, inspection regimes, or mechanical disciplines beneficial.

Working Conditions

Workshop and site-based work
Involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions
