Are you passionate about transforming the lives of young people who need a fresh start in education? We are seeking an inspiring and resilient English Teacher to join our Alternative Provision team, supporting Key Stage 4 learners who have been excluded from mainstream education settings.
We have an exciting opportunity at our Openshaw campus to join our Foundation Learning and Student Support Department as an English Teacher (Alternative Provision) on a fixed-term (until July 2027), part-time (17.5 hours per week - Monday all day, Wednesday morning only, Thursday all day) basis.
You will deliver engaging and creative AQA English Language lessons to Key Stage 4 learners, supporting students with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Working closely with pastoral staff and wider support teams, you will play a key role in helping learners overcome barriers to education, improve attendance and engagement, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
Success in this role will require excellent communication skills, strong behaviour management, empathy, resilience, and a genuine commitment to inclusive education.

We welcome applications from aspiring teachers who are passionate about sharing their industry skills. At The Manchester College, you will be supported by our Teaching Academy to work towards qualified teacher status for post 16 compulsory education, through a Cert Ed/PGCE. This includes 3-4 hours delivery per week and engagement with a mentor to support your progress in the profession while you work. The starting salary for an unqualified teacher is between £30,750 - £32,931*. It’s a great way to kick-start a rewarding career with full training and support. Once you’ve successfully qualified and demonstrated your teaching competence, you’ll progress to the qualified teacher salary banding.
*Consideration will be given to relevant industry experience and skills with the flexibility to offer increased starting salaries in some circumstances*.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Essential Criteria
- Certificate of education or PGCE.
- Experience of teaching English Language at Key Stage 4.
- Knowledge of the AQA English Language curriculum.
- Assessor qualifications (if required by Awarding Organisation).
- Minimum Level 3 occupational qualification.
- English and maths minimum level 2 Grace C or grade 4 and above.
- Experience working with young people with additional needs or challenging behaviours.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.
- The ability to motivate and inspire disengaged learners.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working within Alternative Provision, PRU, SEND, or similar settings.
- Experience supporting learners with SEMH needs.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
