Full job description

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Assistant Psychotherapist to join our team at Oaktree, a specialist residential care provider. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the emotional wellbeing of our children and young adults and assist in delivering therapeutic care across our service.

Main responsibilities:

Support the therapeutic work with our young people, helping them based on their emotional and developmental needs, and taking into account their individual life experiences.
Assist in conducting needs, risk, and strengths-based assessments under the guidance of senior therapists and clinicians.
Help develop therapeutic care plans, clinical formulations, and contribute to reports for the young people in our care.
Provide direct and indirect support to children and adolescents through a range of therapeutic approaches, suited to their needs and capacity.
Work alongside residential care staff to help them build strong, attachment-informed relationships with the young people they support.
Participate in training sessions for residential care staff, promoting understanding of mental health, attachment, and trauma-informed care.
Be alert to safeguarding concerns and risk factors, always acting in the best interests of the children and young people.
Contribute to clinical discussions, reflecting on the needs and progress of young people in placement.

Requirements:

Working towards or holding registration with BACP, HCPC or an equivalent professional body.
Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a relevant therapeutic or mental health setting (experience may include placements or supervised practice as part of training).
A valid driving licence is essential.

Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build rapport with young people, staff, and families.
Ability to assist in the development of care plans tailored to individual needs.
Strong IT skills for record-keeping and report writing.
Empathy, patience, and resilience when working with young people who have experienced trauma.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, always keeping the young person at the centre of practice.
A commitment to learning and developing within a therapeutic role.
