Full job description

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our team as a Nursery Cook. The position is Monday - Friday, hours are a minimum 3.5 per day and may vary between 8.30am and 1pm, all year. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of fresh home cooked meals for approximately 30-40 children daily, ensuring food safety standards are met. Previous experience in food preparation is preferred but not essential, as training will be provided.

Duties

Assist in preparing ingredients and cooking a variety of dishes according to established recipes and standards
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing utensils and equipment
Follow food safety and hygiene regulations diligently to uphold health standards
Help with stock control by monitoring inventory levels and preparing shopping lists
Support the team in meal assembly, plating, and presentation including consideration to cross contamination for allergies and intolerances and special dietary needs
To include some light cleaning and laundry duties

Skills

Experience in food preparation, cooking, or kitchen environments is desirable.
Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene must be completed.
Food Allergy Awareness training will be provided
Knowledge of culinary techniques and meal preparation methods
Familiarity with food safety standards and hygiene practices
Ability to work efficiently
Excellent teamwork and communication skills, as you will be expected to work with families to provide advise and support regarding healthy meals and allergies.

As this role is within a Children's Nursery an enhanced DBS check will be required. All applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm for food service, a commitment to maintaining high standards, and a positive attitude towards learning.

Pay: £12.71 per hour
